I have always been a big fan of Bruce Lee. I can remember as a kid owning every Bruce  Lee outfit that he owned in his movies. I read every book regarding Bruce Lee, and his life’s philosophy. Recently I watched a never before released interview with Bruce Lee and it was truly amazing.

Bruce Lee said in life that we should strive to be water. If you add water to a glass it becomes the glass. If you add water to a bottle it becomes the bottle. Although on the surface that saying may seem simplistic, underneath it has great meaning for me, especially when it comes to the way that I approach SEO for myself and my clients.

Every time Google makes a change to their search algorithm, the entire Internet Marketing community starts to panic. This is something that I have never done no matter what changes Google may have brought forth. Following in the steps of Bruce Lee I have always become water. I smoothly and effortlessly transition with the changes. Because of my SEO philosophy I have been able to help my clients overcome hurdles when other large SEO firms have failed.

My advice to other Internet Marketers around the world is simple. Stay focused on the end result which is to dominate the search engines. The basic formula for SEO has and will always be the same. Create high quality targeted content, optimize your content, and build relationships with other likeminded businesses, and individuals.

When I am standing in front of a room filled with people, and I mention the importance of building relationships, the crowd always looks amazed. Building relationships is nothing new when it comes to Internet Marketing. The best thing that any serious niche market website can do is add a links directory to their site. When I mention those words most Internet Marketers cringe. The majority of Internet Marketers believe that having outbound links to other websites is taboo.

The Taboo Myth

Lets look at this from a few different angles. Google has built a search engine business that sole purpose is linking to other businesses, and yet they still manage to generate massive amounts of traffic.

Lets look at it from a physical point of view. In the real estate business it is nothing new for one real estate agent to send a referral to another real estate agent. A few days ago I was in a store looking for a particular name brand shirt. I asked the sales person if they carried the particular name brand, the lady replied no, however you may want to try XYZ store a few blocks down the street.

Once at the other store I intentionally requested something that I knew they didn’t have and sure enough they gave me another recommendation. This is what business is about. Online business owners have to understand that offering a link directory is a service that benefits their visitors. It also works to their advantage in Googles eyes as well. Many of my older link directories have a PR of 5 to 7 and according to Google Analytics 68% of my traffic comes from these directories.

On a side note there is not a week that goes by where someone doesn’t email me and offers me top dollar to be listed on one of my high PR ranking pages. That alone adds a few extra hundred dollars a month to my bottom line. Keep in mind that may not be a lot of money, however it is money that I receive on a consistent basis for taking a few minutes to add a link to a website.

No back to what I was saying…

With the statistics I am receiving from Google Analytics, you can see why I do not worry when there is a change in the search engines algorithms. I do my job right and I play by the rules. My SEO strategies are like water, I can easily transition with whatever changes the Internet Marketing industry brings my way.
