I was sitting here working and watching some movies online when I noticed my email dinging away. I couldn’t resist the temptation of checking it out. I had received over seventy emails and twenty-one of them were all about some traffic building system. Or at least it was twenty-one when I began writing this article – the emails are still rolling in as I type.

I couldn’t believe how many different traffic scam businesses there were out there. It was truly incredible. The one that I found the most hilarious to put it nicely was the one that promised to send you 10,000 visitors a day. Let me tell you this right here and right now… Your not going to get 10,000 unique visitors a day for $29.95.

Let’s turn back on the logical thinking part of our brains for a moment shall we? Since traffic is the most valuable commodity online why would someone just give it away? That would be equivalent to the bank giving away money, and I’m sure you know that isn’t going to happen.

If your goal is to generate revenue online please understand there is no such thing as a magic button that you can push and the money just starts rolling in. Online businesses have a lot in common with your traditional brick and mortar businesses. Once you are open for business it takes a lot of commitment and dedication before the cash starts rolling in, OR a ton of cash on, “traditional” advertising, which to me is pretty much a waste of time, and money if you ask me.

Stick to creating high quality content, building back links, and most importantly build a list. If you have been trying to make money online for any length of time it impossible for you not to have heard the expression, “The Money Is In The List.” That my friend is the key to making consistent money online. I have pretty close to a hundred niches online and I have a list for each one of them. I’m talking about everything from credit repair to dog training.

Building a list doesn’t happen overnight, in fact at times it seems like it’s never going to happen. Just keep working at it. Keep writing articles (which you should farm out if possible). Keep building high quality links to the various pages on your blog or website. You will start to notice one or two opt-ins at first but as the days go on I promise you – your list will grow, and so will your income.
