Take a moment and put on your common sense cap if you will. How many times have you been on Facebook in the past 12 months searching for a deal on that item that you have had your eye on? How many things have you bought directly based on an ad that you saw on Facebook? How many list have you joined from clicking on a Facebook Ad?

Now lets take a look on the other side of the equation. How many times have you went to your favorite search engine and search for something that you were interested in buying? How many times have you actually made a purchase or joined some sort of opt-in list as a direct result from doing a search on a search engine. I am not saying that you cannot make money with Facebook ads, however in my opinion there are way to many hoops to jump through especially if you are a newbie to PPC advertising.

Try to view Facebook as being similar to the rack at the front of the grocery store. No one goes to those racks intentionally to make a purchase it is an after thought. How many times have you went to your local grocery store to purchase a magazine or a pack of gum specifically? Let me help you with that answer NEVER!!!!

When it comes to Facebook the two main questions that I am asked is, “how to advertise on facebook, and can you make money on facebook.” At the end of the day advertising is advertising. If you have a stream of traffic anywhere be it television, the side of a bus, or a t-shirt you can make money. Advertise on Facebook is no different than any other form of advertising. Give the people what they want! In my personal experience I have been able to convert CPA offers WAY BETTER than I have any other type of offer such as ebooks etc. Why is that you ask? Simple… With the right CPA offer people do not have to purchase anything, all they have to do in most cases is enter their zip, email address, or complete a survey. It is a hell of a lot easier to get someone that you have no rapport with to take action for free than it is to ask them to breakout their wallet.

WARNING… THE RISK IS HIGH

Even if you do decide to promote CPA offers on Facebook the risk is still extremely high.  It all comes down to doing the correct keyword research, targeting the correct demographics, and of course matching the correct CPA offer with the correct demographics. Expect to loose money your first time out of the gate, IF YOU CHOOSE to use Facebook as a form of advertising, or any other form of PPC advertising.

In my personal opinion there is nothing like good old fashion FREE traffic. Put the work in up front and enjoy life the way it was meant to be.

I am not sure why very few people are using this strategy to generate organic traffic from Facebook. I am referring to the Facebook fan pages or whatever they are calling it these days. Facebook allows you to create additional pages under your profile, for FREE. Very few internet marketers are taking advantage of this technique. There are over 5 BILLION Facebook pages indexed in Google RIGHT NOW as you sit here reading this. What does that mean? You should be creating Facebook pages that are optimized for each specific keyword phrase that you are trying to generate traffic for. Then start building backlinks to those Facebook pages, which are linking back to your main blog and other web 2.0 pages. I have 100’s of Facebook pages pointing to my sales page and YEP I do generate traffic from them and the traffic converts. In fact that traffic converts better then any Facebook ad campaign that I have ever ran. The best part is it does not cost me anything (except the one time fee for outsourcing. You do not have to outsource you can do it yourself.)

Facebook is not the end all be all. In the big scheme of things Facebook is nothing more than another social network and should be used as tool. It too shall pass, although it may be hard to believe right now. Do you remember when MySpace was the greatest thing on earth? It was on every popular sitcom, talk show, it was everywhere. Then came Twitter, and now Facebook – who the hell knows what will be next. The only thing I can tell you for sure, is the next “big thing” will allow you to make money also.
