How was my day you ask? Well all day I was flooded with emails, telephone and face-time calls from clients worrying about some of their rankings dropping in Google. One client who will remain nameless do to ethical and legal obligations. This client called and wanted to know if I could run his monthly rankings report a few weeks early, he even offered to pay extra.
When I asked him what the problem was he said he noticed that several of his pages were plummeting in the search engine listings.
My first question was…. What in the hell is the owner of a multi-million dollars business doing spying on the search engines to see if his listings where dropping or not.
He said that a guy in marketing “who was also an Internet Marketer” as he proudly said as he was explaining the situation. He said that he decided to research the matter since Google was going through so many changes and he was shocked to see that the companies pages were also effected by “The Google Rampage”.
My client went on ranting and raving for a few minutes, about how he has been paying me $2,500 a month for advice that was suppose to help them “dominate the search engines” and this is what he gets.
BACK STORY: He has been paying me for almost two years GLADLY and even gave me an unwarranted bonus of $500 when his pages started to hit “page 2” of Google.
I told him give me a few hours to do a little research of my own and I would call him back. I went to the Bat Cave (my home office) and fired up my computers. I began to run his report and after awhile the results were in. This particular client has 1,500+ pages on his site and 20 of them dropped 2 to 7 positions. This is not a big deal nor is it anything out of the normal. His resident Internet Marketing expert failed to realize the 104 pages that moved up in rankings.
I emailed my client the report so that he could follow along and then called him. As I began explaining the situation I could feel a since of calm come over him. I also let him know that if he no longer required my services since it appeared that he already had an expert under his employment that I had no problem stepping aside.
He assured me that this situation would never happen again and he was indeed grateful for my services.
Now imagine similar scenarios reoccurring 17 more times throughout the day well into the evening. It would appear that all of this Google information floating around on the Internet had everyone in a panic. It was crazy to say the least.
The Truth About Google
Understand this… Google’s search engine is nothing more than a piece of software. It does not posses any type of artificial intelligence despite what bloggers and other search engine firms may believe. The Google search engine software is no smarter than the mad-men that set behind the computer programming it.
Google’s entire mission is to provide the best possible search engine results to the end user as possible. If someone searches for “Kentucky Blue Grass Seeds” Google wants the end user to find all the information that they can possibly desire on their subject matter.
Unfortunately people have tried to cheat Google every way possible. In fact if I would mention the names of a few well known guru’s that had cheated Google your mouth would hit the floor. What you do not know is that those same guru’s were severally punished by Google. The bottom-line is it does not pay to take short-cuts. There is no secret or magically way to instantly POP to the top of Google’s search engine rankings.
So Tim How Do I Generate Organic Traffic?
I have always said and I will always continue to say… There is no traffic like highly targeted search engine traffic. It is free, and it converts well. So that leads us to the question… How do I get free search engine traffic.

- Discover which keywords you can quickly dominate
- Build high quality content based around the keyword phrases that you have researched
- Build high quality targeted links to each of the pages on your site (this is where most people give up)
