The good news for you is I am going to give you some advice for free, no strings attached. First and foremost it is important for you to understand what Google is trying to do. The search engine segment of Google wants nothing more than to give the end user the best possible search results that they can. As Google continues to increase their search result strategy there are people out there who are also busy at work trying to find ways to cheat the system. This does more harm than it does good for all of us, and is the main reason for the “Google Updates.”

The search engine giant despite the negative internet buzz is not out to destroy websites. It is important that you keep in mind that all search engines were created by humans and are subject to error. When changes are made they are made with changes to ultimately serve the end user, and sometimes a few innocent victims may inadvertently get caught up in the shuffle.

Lets Look At The Facts

There are some aspects of Google’s formula that will never change. Content will always be King no matter what changes Google comes up with. Backlinks will also continue to be an important factor to search engine rankings. After all the Internet only exist because of the linking structure i.e. the web. From time to time Google will shift the value of various links thus fluctuating search engine results. Without getting all technical this is what happen with the “Panda Update.”

Believe it or not this is one of the best times to takeover a market, or to dominate a keyword phrase. When Google makes a major change and a ton of online businesses loose rankings they panic. I have been able to dominate the search engines for competitive keywords that I would otherwise have not even gone after. This is mainly possible because I am always tracking my competition as much as I track my own results.

One of the things the Panda Update did was change the value of certain links. It gave more value to links such as Facebook likes, and the Google +1 (of course there is a little more to it than getting a bunch of likes from facebook). Whatever you do – do not waste your time buying a bunch of clicks on the likes button, +1 it will not serve you at all.

I am amazed at how many rip-off artist are charging people for facebook like, and +1 clicks. These businesses seemed to pop up overnight (I guess they did now that I think about it). These are mainly overseas scam artist from what I could tell.

How To Get Your Pages Back To The Top

If you were one of the thousands and thousands of people affected by the Panda Update here is a formula to get your pages back to the top.

• Analyze the top 5 results for the keyword phrase you are trying to raise your search engine results for. You want to reverse engineer those sites to see what it is they have done to take your old position. Do they have more content? Do they have the keyword in the title? Do they have the keyword phrase in their headline? What keyword density are they using, etc…
• Re-optimize your page according to the results that you have discovered by reverse engineering your top 5 competitors.
• Its time to build backlinks. You want links from social bookmarking and media sites. You will want to build backlinks using blog comments. Build backlinks from .edu, and .org sites. Launch your article marketing campaign, and your press release campaign. Start building links to the various link directories.

Wash, rinse, and repeat. If you follow those simple steps you will indeed crush your competitors, and ultimately survive the Panda Attack.

So what is Temporal Algorithms?

It is another of the many equations that search engines use to determine search engine rankings. When I say I discovered this by accident that is exactly what I mean. Do you remember the big Kobe Bryant fiasco? Well I had used it as a metaphor in one of my blog post during the time it was going on, the next thing I know I was inundated with traffic for the next three or four days.

At the time I didn’t really pay much attention to it. Then the big Kim Kardashian sex tape scandal was the hottest thing online. Made a few jokes about it during a blog post and BINGO my page was crushing the front page of the search engines for about a week.

Me being the genius that I am, I still did not pay it much attention. Then I struck again during the death of Michael Jackson, when I blogged about it. Mike was the man and I was just paying homage to the King of Pop. What do you know, I was ranked on the front page for the keyword phrase, ‘Michael Jackson’. OMG the traffic was insane. I wasn’t ranked long but a few days were worth a few new people that had opted in to my list.

For the record each person on your list is worth about $1.00 USD per month on average. Thats when I finally got it. Google will give late breaking news a little favoritism. After thinking about it – it all made perfect since. Google’s job is to deliver the search results that the end user wants. And if there is something that is happening in the world that is mega news worthy Google wants to be able to provide their end user with the results.

I thought this was something that I had discovered, but after further research I realized that my discovery was similar to Christopher Columbus (it wasn’t my discovery ). There were already people that knew about this strategy and they even had a name for it, ‘Temporal Algorithms’. What I did not know is that the majority of individuals where unaware of it. So I decided to share it with you, pretty nice of me huh?!?

The Sad But True News

I do not like making things sound super awesome when there are side-effects. There is no guarantee that this strategy will work for you every time. I have not discovered a proven method for making this technique work each and every time. In my opinion it is worth the effort!

Do you think it is worth a few thousand extra people discovering your site that may not have known about it otherwise? If so, give temporal algorithms a fair shot – you won’t be disappointed I assure you that much.

THE PAST

Internet Marketing (if you want to call it that) was not even a phrase back then. Whoever had the keyword phrase on their page won the race and was listed on page one of the search engines. Of course there were other factors but you get my point.

Life was good and most businesses thought that the Internet was nothing more than another fad like the radio, telephone, and the television (as you can tell corporate America isn’t that bright and they are usually wrong as history will show you).

Millions of dollars later you could hear the wolves at the door. Every kid with a computer and a little graphics program was a web designer. As get rich quick artist and businesses started to see there was money in them there hills they were desperate to get up and running online.

But there was a problem…

They did not know how to do it, because they thought this thing would not last remember?!?

SIDE NOTE: The internet was like the gold rush during the 1800′s. Once the word was out everyone wanted in on the deal.

THE FACTS: The majority of people who got rich during the gold rush era did not get rich from finding gold, they got rich from selling supplies such as water, donkeys, tents, shovels etc.. to those who wanted to get rich but never did.

The same thing happened during the golden age of the Internet. During the big “DOT COM BOOM” the majority of people who got rich were those who were selling domain names, internet access, and web hosting.

As the media hyped up stories of people striking it rich overnight the digital version of the gold rush was on. Everyone and their mother wanted a website, and those selling the digital version of supplies got rich. The suckers (people like you and me) dreaming of fast cash had a website that was similar to a billboard in the woods – nobody knew about it, nobody ever seen it.

As reality began to set in, and people realized that the saying “build it and they would come” was a bunch of B.S. the media started reporting the “DOT COM BUST“. Industry experts where sitting on their high horses with their chest stuck out saying “I told you so“. The Internet is just a fad.

PRESENT DAY

A few savvy dudes (like you and I) figured it out. They took the old school form of marketing “Selling Information” and applied it to the digital realm and presto… It worked. You had people making millions of dollars selling information that they were creating while sitting in their underwear at home.

MY TRUTH

I was considered to be one of those people (sort of). I am not making millions of dollars. Growing up poor as hell and even homeless at one time all I wanted was to be able to see the world. Even to this day my friends joke me about buying a new car (to them I am rich) but I have no use for one. I spend about $40 a month in guess. I HATE TO DRIVE!!!

My entire reason for making money was so that I could see the world, and I have done exactly that. Thanks to the Internet I have been to more countries than a 4 Star General. I have stood on the Pyramids, I have toured the wilds of Africa, seen beautiful places such as China, Japan, Spain, Costa Rica, Amsterdam (thats another story for another time ) The list goes on, and on.

I have digressed… Let me get back on track here!

It use to be that web designers where the money makers. I remember charging companies thousands of dollars to build their website. Then I hit them with monthly hosting fees and a monthly maintenance contract.

Then disaster struck!!! As technology advanced everyone began to know someone (cousin, brother uncle) who was a “web design guru”. The rates that a high quality web designer could charge seemed to have dropped overnight.

So What’s Next?

Becoming an Internet Marketer was the thing to be. I cannot begin to tell you how many SEO gurus throw money at me to help pull their asses out of the fire. The company that I mentioned earlier is currently billing over $70,000 a month in marketing services and cannot tell their ass from a hole in the ground.

This is not an isolated incident. I see so-called guru’s online robbing people with their marketing scams i.e. “New Online Traffic Source Discovered” that dude was selling that crap for $67.

The Douchebags Marketing Secret Revealed

His entire traffic getting course can be summed up in a few sentences. He was guaranteeing people that they could get on the front page of Google in 24 hours or less.

Did He Really Deliver On His Promise?

The short answer – yep!

He was teaching his “students” to target keyword phrases like, “The SEO Bully’s Approach To Dominating Your Local Market“.

Damn!!! I am a fan of keyword phrases but I can guarantee that no one on earth is searching for a keyword phrase that damn long.

Once the student optimized the page for this ridiculous keyword phrase they submitted the RSS Feed to several RSS Feed directories. As you may know these directories are constantly being indexed by the search engines, which means that your page will be indexed.

Since no one is searching for your keyword phrase and you have no competition you are listed at the top of the search engines.

After a few days you would get an automated response that asked you how everything was going. At this time his students were hitting the top of the search results pretty much at will. They were more than willing to give him awesome testimonials which drove this guy to super stardom.

The Victims

Right now as you are reading this super awesome blog post, I have a guy that owns a pretty successful company that wants to put me on retainer at $2,000 a month to do consulting. His hold up is he has been ripped off by three other SEO guru’s in the past and is afraid to sign on the dotted line.

In the old days I would have offered to do 60 days free just to prove I knew my shit. That always seals the deal. As it stands now $2,000 will not make a difference one way or the other for me. For me its all about lifestyle, and I enjoy the flexibility and freedom that I currently have. No amount in the world is worth your happiness (I didn’t understand that when my grandmother use to say it to me).

The SEO Black Eye

I see a trend coming around the curve and its coming like a bat out of hell. I am starting to hear more and more stories about companies paying big bucks for SEO and other Internet Marketing services and the ends never justify the means. The Internet Marketing business is rapidly getting a bad name i.e. “The SEO Black Eye“.

SEO is like the American Idol auditions – everyone with a little marketing knowledge thinks they can do it. Just because you may have done well with one or two pages does not mean that you are a marketing guru.

I even see many colleges getting in on the act. They charge thousands of dollars for their course and pay guys like me to come and speak to the students.

They are several years behind on the methods that they are teaching.

The Oxymoronic Statement

Anyone can do SEO (HUH?) there is nothing that I do that anyone else cannot do. All of the answers to how to market online can be found online. In fact one $5,000 investment in a course that I purchased a few months back has already paid for its self two fold. This year alone I have invested well over $50,000 in my education (that’s including flights hotels etc…) I own every current “top marketers home study course” and I have read each of them at least a dozen times (I taught myself to speed read I hit 750 to 900 words a minute).

• Kick ass content – take this site for example – as I write this blog post this site is ranked #185,502 in Alexa. That is not great, but when you understand I have done absolutely nothing to market this site. I have never set out to build a single backlink and I have done nothing to optimize any of the pages.This site is fumed by good content. Every now and then I offer my services at a huge discount (like I did in the last blog post I offered a report at $97 but it was limited to the first 100 people. I knocked out $9,700 in less than an hour and started turning down the rest of the others.)

  NOTE: $4,000 of that money went to pay people that I actually trained who will compile the reports, I did not have to lift a finger. I just want to be factual with you – so I guess at the end of the day I only made $5,700).

• Build your list
• Focus on high quality backlinks.
• Constantly study your craft – Study great marketers and writers from the past. There is a lot more to marketing than a great idea. If you are not familiar with terms like emotional triggers, copy (and not the copy and paste command on your keyboard) or sales funnel you are not ready to rake in the big bucks. We all had to crawl before we walked.

The Bottom-Line

If you are trying to get into the SEO business please… Please know what you are doing before you start charging people money. In this blog post I am going to once and for all clear up all the B.S. surrounding duplicate content and the big bad Google. So many people hit the panic button every time Google makes a change to their algorithm. I am not complaining, because my phone rings off the hook and my consulting fees go through the roof when this happens. However there are those out there struggling trying to make a living online and make the mistake of listening to every quick-buck guru out there to find themselves having to start over again  when the guru’s quick fix approach stops working. I am going to tell you how to do it right, and the rest is up to you.

Lets start demystifying this duplicate content conundrum by first understanding Google and their ultimate objective, a little better. I think sometimes we give Google way more credit than they deserve. At the end of the day Google’s search engine is nothing more than lines of code created by a programmer. The code used to create it is only as good as the person sitting at the computer entering it. Googles search engine is no more or no less – thats it!

The job of Google’s Search engine is to provide high quality search results to the end user. This is how Google brings home the bacon (make their money) and their number one interest is bringing home as much bacon (to make as much money) as possible.

Most people tend to take Google’s decisions personal as if they kicked in our front door and started slapping our loved ones around.  It is nothing like that, they are committed to doing their job, and desire to be the best in the world at it. Personally I applaud their efforts, as do my accountant, and all the real estate I have accumulated over the years do to being able to generate free traffic via Google. I thank you Google!!!

A Little Common Sense Can Go A Long Ways

The main thing that Google gets pissed about is the idiots that will copy articles 100% just create a junk site (I know this for a fact because I was once that idiot). That approach is dead and if you get caught doing it you will pay dearly. That is not my opinion, I am speaking from experience.

Does Article Spinners Work?

Most article spinners that I have encountered work awesome as far as the search engines are concerned. However the spun articles never make since as far as the reader is concerned and sooner or later that will end up biting you in the ass.

The only article “spinner” that I know of is UAW that I have had success with. The said think is that whoever is in charge of their marketing over there had done nothing to get their software out of the “article spinning” genre. I am sure I am going to get in trouble for revealing this but I want you to know.

I do not consider UAW to be a “article spinner” because you are creating all the content yourself that it uses to manipulate your article. You create 3 versions of your article, rewriting each version so that it has the exact same number of paragraphs etc. (boy am I dancing on the edge by revealing this information). Their system will take your 3 unique versions and create hundreds if not thousands of versions for you. THIS IS A POWERFUL TOOL!!!

Over the past few years I have not had a single site with UAW content on it banned, nor have they dropped drastically or anything of the sort. You can always expect fluctuations in the market just as with any business.

My Advice To You

It is always good to keep your ear to the ground to see what the big G is up to. Stop looking for the magic bullet to making money online. This site right here is a good example of what I am trying to teach you here. I have never once optimized a single page on this site. I have done nothing to advertise or promote it as far as PPC, On-page optimization, or Off-page optimization. I may have mentioned it in other videos or during speaking engagements. This site has been climbing the Alexa charts driven by nothing but pure passion.

According to Google Analytics the majority of my traffic is return traffic and others linking to my site from there site. Do what you love and love what you do and you will be fine my friend.

I have watched search engines come and go over the years and I have still managed to pay the bills and travel the world. The sky is not falling and it never will my friend. Use a little common sense and you will be amazed at how far that will take you.

Put yourself in the shoes of someone searching for help on your subject matter. Would you read your site? Would you purchase something from your site? If you can honestly say yes to those questions then you are on the right track. The rest is about learning a few simple techniques to increase your traffic.

When I asked him what the problem was he said he noticed that several of his pages were plummeting in the search engine listings.

My first question was…. What in the hell is the owner of a multi-million dollars business doing spying on the search engines to see if his listings where dropping or not.

He said that a guy in marketing “who was also an Internet Marketer” as he proudly said as he was explaining the situation. He said that he decided to research the matter since Google was going through so many changes and he was shocked to see that the companies pages were also effected by “The Google Rampage”.

This is not a big deal nor is it anything out of the normal. His resident Internet Marketing expert failed to realize the 104 pages that moved up in rankings.

I emailed my client the report so that he could follow along and then called him. As I began explaining the situation I could feel a since of calm come over him. I also let him know that if he no longer required my services since it appeared that he already had an expert under his employment that I had no problem stepping aside.

He assured me that this situation would never happen again and he was indeed grateful for my services.

Now imagine similar scenarios reoccurring 17 more times throughout the day well into the evening. It would appear that all of this Google information floating around on the Internet had everyone in a panic. It was crazy to say the least.

The Truth About Google
Understand this… Google’s search engine is nothing more than a piece of software. It does not posses any type of artificial intelligence despite what bloggers and other search engine firms may believe. The Google search engine software is no smarter than the mad-men that set behind the computer programming it.

Google’s entire mission is to provide the best possible search engine results to the end user as possible. If someone searches for “Kentucky Blue Grass Seeds” Google wants the end user to find all the information that they can possibly desire on their subject matter.

Unfortunately people have tried to cheat Google every way possible. In fact if I would mention the names of a few well known guru’s that had cheated Google your mouth would hit the floor. What you do not know is that those same guru’s were severally punished by Google. The bottom-line is it does not pay to take short-cuts. There is no secret or magically way to instantly POP to the top of Google’s search engine rankings.

So Tim How Do I Generate Organic Traffic?

I have always said and I will always continue to say… There is no traffic like highly targeted search engine traffic. It is free, and it converts well. So that leads us to the question… How do I get free search engine traffic.

NOTE: I get paid thousands of dollars to repeat exactly what I am about to tell you right now, so do not take this information lightly. All though very simplistic it is the truth, and it works.

1. Discover which keywords you can quickly dominate
2. Build high quality content based around the keyword phrases that you have researched
3. Build high quality targeted links to each of the pages on your site (this is where most people give up)

Continue the above three steps and I can personally guarantee you success. Trust me when I tell you, if I can do it anyone can.

EzineArticles has been the undisputed champ when it comes to directories to submit your article to and generate traffic. Due to Google’s new algorithm updates the top ranking article directory may be out for the count. It is no secret that Google has content farms in their sights and they have been sniping them one-by-one. Google has showed no mercy and no favoritism whatsoever (besides to their own site YouTube – but you didn’t hear that from me).

It would appear that the owners of EzineArticles have found themselves on the wrong side of the Google “smack down.” Google has labeled the article directory giant as being a ‘Content Farm’, and has de-indexed many of the sites pages causing them to loose 35% of their traffic and climbing. The EzineArticle team did not take the news lying down, and they are currently working on getting back in Google’s good graces.

Leave your comments below regarding the EzineArticles battle

The owner of EzineArticles has plans to reduce the number of article submissions accepted by at least 10%. If your article does not meet their new level of ‘uniqueness’ it will be rejected. The days of the champ accepting submissions via WordPress plugin are officially over. The company has also decided to reduce the number of ads per page, in an effort to increase user friendliness. The word count will now be raised to a minimum of 400 words per article. The bar on mandatory keyword density per article has also been raised, but as of now a percentage has not been released. Any article that THEY consider spammy will be removed from the directory.

Personally I have seen a huge drop in traffic coming from EzineArticles and have pulled them off of my recommended submission list for the time being. As I write this blog post I feel bad for EzineArticles and I hope they do make a comeback. As for now I have noticed that my sites that have been using UAW as a content source have been doing great and in many cases I have seen improvements. Since UAW has earned a well deserved reputation for turning your article writing efforts into unique content I still use them and I highly recommend them to the members of my list.

The downside to UAW is there sales page does them no justice, and to put it simply it sucks. At a hefty price of $67 a month I was hesitant to give them a chance a few years back, however I took the leap of faith and it turned out to be one of the best investments that I have made for generating traffic. It turns out to be a hell of a lot cheaper than PPC and I recommend that you give it try. I must warn you that you will not see instant results and I recommend that you give it a try for at least 90 days before passing judgment.

Instead Of Using EzineArticles…

Each time I launch a new campaign it usually takes 3 to 6 months before I start seeing a return on my investment. Once the ball starts rolling it is consistent and one of my most effective forms of traffic generation.

I am not trying to sell you on joining UAW just because I get a commission, the fact is I make a damn good living online, and traveling the country doing public speaking, as well as writing books. My goal with this blog is to help those that are now in the position that I was once in – a struggling internet marketer. I remember when the thought of generating $5,000 or $10,000 a month seemed like a dream. Let me tell you, if I can do it anyone can do it.

Whatever you do NEVER GIVE UP AND LIVE YOUR LIFE WITH PASSION.

The bad news is sometimes Google’s robot goes a little haywire, and it does not always display the correct sitelinks. In this blog post I am going to show you exactly how to check your sitelinks, and make sure that the Google’s robot is doing its job correctly.

My research reveals that Google will only return sitelinks when they are confident that the searcher is looking for a specific website. If you want to see if your website has any sitelinks listed in Google it is really easy to find out. All you have to do is search Google for your domain name without the .com extension. You can also use any keyword or keyword phrase that you know that your website is listed in the first position for. This would generate the same result as using the domain name.

There are two different ways that your site links listing will show up in Google search results each way has a different meaning:

1. Your sitelinks listing should be identical to your website’s navigation links, this means that Google can parse your website’s information and divide your website into different categories. This is extremely good.
2. Some site links may appear as random page listings. This means that your navigation links were unable to be parsed by the Google robot and Google simply selected the pages with the most backlinks and used them to represent your sitelinks. This is okay because at least you have multiple pages listed but isn’t great.
3. Then there is the third option, which I consider the doomsday option. This is when Google does not display any of your site links. This means chances are your pages cannot be parsed correctly, there are multiple reasons that this could occur. This is very bad.

The bottom line is this, if your website has a good quality navigational structure, it will be extremely easy for you to get sitelinks for your website.

Sitelinks listed in the Google results are appealing to Web surfers. However sitelinks have nothing to do with the position that your website will receive within the Google rankings.

The more relevant links that you have on your website the more pages Google will index.According to Matt Cutts the number of pages that Google indexes on your website is roughly proportional to the PageRank of your website. In layman’s terms that means that more pages on your site will be indexed if your site has many inbound links.Despite what most may think, Google does not have an indexation cap, for example they will index all pages of your site if you have enough inbound links. Remember that the PageRank that Google uses in its ranking algorithm is not the PageRank that is displayed in Google’s toolbar.
2. If your sever is slow you may consider switchingIf Google can only crawl a few pages at any given time due to a slow server, Google can set some sort of upper bound on how many pages they will fetch from that host server. This can become a serious problem for websites that are hosted on shared or slow servers.
3. The mystery of duplicate content solvedQuote from Matt Cutts, “Imagine we crawl three pages from a site, and then we discovered that the two other pages were duplicates of the third page. We’ll drop two out of the three pages and keep only one, and that’s why it looks like it has less good content.”In other words Google will index your site based on the PR of your pages. If you happen to have duplicate content, some pages of your website will be discarded and you will have squandered away ranking opportunities.Later in the interview Matt Cutts implied that if you were to link to a duplicate page, you can mess up your PR. Google will do it’s very best to pass the PR and other link informations from duplicate pages to the original page.Matt also explained that if you were to use the rel=canoncical tag on your site pages then the pages need not be exact duplicates but they should be conceptual duplicates of the same product i.e. motorcycles, scooters, motorcycle accessories etc..

   I have read some ebooks where some “SEO experts” have said that Google penalizes websites for over use of the rel=canonical tag. Well allow me to put that myth to bed right here and now. Here is a direct quote from Google’s Matt Cutt regarding this matter, “It’s totally find for a page to link to itself with rel=canonical on every page on your site.”

   In my personal opinion Matt sort of contridicted himself later in the interview when he said, Google does not always obey the canoncical tag. Matt went on to say, that the crawling and indexing team wants to reserve the right to determine if the site owner is accidently shooting themselves in the foot and  not listen to the rel=canonical tag.

4. Affiliate pages don’t get high rankingsIf a website is an affiliate website that is very similar to other pages (only with a different logo, etc.) then this page won’t get hight rankings.If Google detects an affiliate link that link will not pass ay PR power.
5. Redirects work but they don’t pass the whole PageRankIf you change your domain name and redirect old pages with a 301 redirect from your old page to your new page then the link power will be passed to your new domain name but the overall power of the links will decrease. 301 redirects do not pass the full PageRank.
6. Low quality pages can cause problemsThis rule is something that most website owners should already know, but very few actually adhere to. If Google feels that your website has a lot of pages that has poor or low content then Google will stop crawling your site. In this case it doesn’t help to make your content a little wordy (not just gibberish but good solid content.)
7. PageRank sculpting and website navigationGoogle does not want you to sculpt your website for PageRank reasons. The best way to pass link power from one page to other pages is to have a good website navigation.”Site architecture, how you make links and structure appear on a page in a way to get the most people to the products that you want them to see, is really a better way to approach it then trying to do individual sculpting of PageRank on links.”"You can distribute that PageRank very carefully between related products, and use related links straight to your product pages rather than into your navigation. I think there are ways to do that without necessarily going towards trying to sculpt PageRank.”
8. You still shouldn’t use JavaScript links for your website navigationOver the years Google has gotten a lot smarter, at spidering your webpage. At first the search spiders couldn’t understand JavaScript at all, at present the spiders can understand some JavaScript but not all.At the end of the day it is best to avoid using JavaScript if at all possible. If you just must use it, to create your navigation it is recommended that you add the no follow to your JavaScript tags. This will help the spiders continue spidering the rest of your content, and I highly recommend it
9. Google does not like paid linksAlthough this is a widely known fact still people fall for the link scams. You know the one’s I’m talking about… Get 50 backlinks for $19.97! You see them all the time… These scammers are ranking in the cash because their links are pretty much worthless.Google has been and continues to do everything they can to avoid having advertisements affect search engine rankings.The big G has been has started a campaign asking people to report link campaign. This has been going well especially for the smaller internet marketers. Google is doing a lot to try to detect ads and make sure that they don’t unduly affect the search results.If you want to get high rankings on Google, you should use search engine optimization techniques. Whatever you do DO NOT TRY TO CHEAT GOOGLE.

This article is geared towards (Internet Marketing Virginia) my fellow business owners here in the wonderful state of Virginia, although it applies to all business owners around the world. I will explain the importance of having an online presence on the Internet and how it will benefit your business as far as generating additional revenue. I will do this by sharing a few personal stories that I know you will be able to relate to.

I was driving down Virginia Beach Blvd and couldn’t help but notice all the businesses that were closing down. I pulled into a plaza and began walking into business after business asking why they were closing? The answer was the same all the way across the board, “We are shutting our doors do to the economy.” The majority of them didn’t have websites, and those that did, didn’t have a clue how to utilize it let alone marketing online.

I thought about one of my local clients that owned a beauty salon who hired me to help her take her business online. She and I went to work on putting our strategy together and six months later her business was booming. She had built an opt-in list of about two hundred clients. Whenever she was having a slow day she would run a special and send it out to her list and the cash would roll in.

I want to share one more story then I will tie it all together and put a bow on it for you. I had received a call from a young lady who wanted help with her website. One of the first things that I do when dealing with a client is to find out a little background information about there business. After interviewing this lady there was no way on earth that I could have been prepared for what came next. She told me that she made wedding clothes for small dogs. Just when I thought that I had heard it all this took the cake.

In a nutshell she just put up a website with a few pictures and added a PayPal button. She had her website for a few years, and at most she would receive an email from time to time telling her how cute the photos were of the dogs dressed in wedding gowns and texedos. Until she heard about me her entire business marketing had consisted of word of mouth. I went to work on optimizing her website and with in a few days she had received her first order online. Over time we had built an excellent friendship as well as a business relationship. It was normal for her to give me a call just to say hello at least once a month, so it was no surprise to me when I saw her number on the caller I.D. However I did find it surprising to hear a sad tone to her voice this time. She told me she was afraid that she had a little bad news. She went on to explain that she was going to have to shut the website down and was no longer going to need my services.

My first thought was something was wrong with her, and I was immediately worried. I asked her was she ok, did something happen? She began to chuckle as she explained everything was fine. The problem was she was so backed up from all the orders coming in that she felt it was best to just close the website down temporarily until she had a chance to catch up.

I shared both of those stories with you for one simple reason… They are both proof positive that if those two businesses can survive in what most would consider an economic crisis, then all other businesses can do the same no matter where they are located in the world. If used correctly the Internet will serve as an extremely powerful marketing/lead generating tool for your business.

I don’t want to mislead my readers, so before I end this article I want to make it clear that the amount of time it takes to start seeing results from your online marketing efforts will vary. The stories I shared with you were unique and they were able to see results rather fast. The amount of time it will take will depend on the competitive market in your area. However it will work, that much I can guarantee.

Whatever you do, don’t wait until your business has already began to sink and attempt to launch a website out of desperation. Make it apart of your marketing strategies soon as possible.

I couldn’t believe how many different traffic scam businesses there were out there. It was truly incredible. The one that I found the most hilarious to put it nicely was the one that promised to send you 10,000 visitors a day. Let me tell you this right here and right now… Your not going to get 10,000 unique visitors a day for $29.95.

Let’s turn back on the logical thinking part of our brains for a moment shall we? Since traffic is the most valuable commodity online why would someone just give it away? That would be equivalent to the bank giving away money, and I’m sure you know that isn’t going to happen.

If your goal is to generate revenue online please understand there is no such thing as a magic button that you can push and the money just starts rolling in. Online businesses have a lot in common with your traditional brick and mortar businesses. Once you are open for business it takes a lot of commitment and dedication before the cash starts rolling in, OR a ton of cash on, “traditional” advertising, which to me is pretty much a waste of time, and money if you ask me.

Stick to creating high quality content, building back links, and most importantly build a list. If you have been trying to make money online for any length of time it impossible for you not to have heard the expression, “The Money Is In The List.” That my friend is the key to making consistent money online. I have pretty close to a hundred niches online and I have a list for each one of them. I’m talking about everything from credit repair to dog training.

Building a list doesn’t happen overnight, in fact at times it seems like it’s never going to happen. Just keep working at it. Keep writing articles (which you should farm out if possible). Keep building high quality links to the various pages on your blog or website. You will start to notice one or two opt-ins at first but as the days go on I promise you – your list will grow, and so will your income.
