Do you want to dominate SEO Keywords like a beast set free? Of course you do! After 10 years or more of doing SEO, and consulting others it never fails I am always asked the same two questions by newbies. They either complain that the competition is too steep, or they believe that the market has been tapped out and there are no more good keyword phrases.
The truth is they are wrong in both cases… I come to realize that it was up to me to set them on the right path. I had to show them the fine art of keyword strategy and how to dominate SEO keywords.
I have set back and watched many search engines come and I have watched many of them go. I have seen many so called expert strategies come and go. The only thing that has stood the test of time is that all good SEO strategies start with keyword research.
Tips On How To Dominate SEO Keywords
Another thing that has stayed pretty consistent is the two different SEO mindsets:
You have the all or nothing SEO group who believe that you should focus on the top few popular keywords in their niche market.
There is also the long tail group who spends the majority of their time on low level keywords that nobody else wants.
Advice On How To Dominate SEO Keywords
Bigger Isn’t Always Better!
The problem with the first group is it’s extremely competitive and chances are it’s just going to get more competitive.
As more competitors enter the market, and the competition begins to fight for the number one position the gloves will come off. There is only room for one at the top, and the question you will need to ask yourself is does the ends justify the means.
I’m not trying to discourage anyone that chooses this route. I just want you to know that you need to bring your “A” game if you want to dominate SEO Keywords in this arena. You will also need to realize that in order to play this game you need to be in it for the long haul.
The downside to this strategy is that you have everything riding on a few keywords. If Google decides to make a change to their algorithm it could destroy your revenue over night.
Even The Low Hanging Fruit Has It’s Downside
The long tail strategy requires a ton of content development, and the gains are sometimes disappointing. No matter what fancy keyword research tool you may use or what the results may be, that doesn’t necessarily mean that your going to replicate the results in the real world.
You may beat on your chest like King Kong just because you are dominating the search engines for a 5 to 7 keyword phrases. Keep in mind of the time and effort that you spent getting there. Also take note that it really didn’t boost your bottom line much at all. Please don’t misunderstand me… There is money in the long tail strategy… but building a ton of tightly focused keyword phrases isn’t the way to go. There’s a much better way to increase your revenue and it all begins with changing the way you think about things.
Tips On How To Dominate SEO Keywords
Distraction Can Lead To Devastation
Every market known to man has at least a few top keywords that everyone is in high pursuit of. Even the VRE guys wish they could get a piece of the pie, even the long tail group wouldn’t mind seeing a part of the action.
Any SEO person worth their weight in gold will do their keyword research, create a highly targeted list, and then start their battle for grabbing the top positions in the search engines.
The problem that most of them run into and that does not allow them to dominate SEO keywords, is that great big wall of distraction. They get started on working on the top few keywords and never get around to working on the rest of the list.
Best case scenario is that they create content for the top 6 or 7 keyword phrases, but when it comes to link building, copywriting, etc. it is usually on the top few keywords, and they never get the opportunity to dominate SEO Keywords they way they originally planed
Long story short even your best competitors, will get caught up in the vortex of the all or nothing mentality. Sure they may have started out with the to do task list. Sure the first day or so everything was going well… But once a few of their keywords are indexed the rat race is on and they start to loose focus of their goal to dominate SEO keywords. They start to spend more time focusing on improving their position, and it becomes an obsession.
I bet you are reading this thinking, HA! I would never do that… This guy is not talking about me. Trust me once you get a top ranking for a high volume keyword things begin to change… Your hunger to dominate SEO keywords begin to fade and, you start to get busy, and you no longer have that free time that you once had.
Remember the rest of those keywords that you had on your list? I’m talking about the ones you were going to work on and use to dominate SEO keywords… They don’t seem to be as important now do they? After all life is good with the top positions that you currently have. You become obsessed with holding that top position. You begin to monitor it everyday. You become so obsessed you begin to check your position two or three times a day. Your are finally starting to make a little money from your efforts to dominate SEO keywords.
This Is When The SEO Gorilla Takes Your Lunch Money!
While most so called SEO experts are focusing on high traffic keywords, or long tail keywords I will find the middle ground and take your lunch money, and dominate SEO keywords in your market. I guarantee you that my hunger to dominate the SEO keywords will not fade. I keep a constant reminder taped to my whiteboard. I will not stop until I have totally dominated the market.
If you do research on the top 50 keywords in your market you will notice that the top 5 or so keywords adds up to less than the secondary keywords combined.
There are those rare occasions that I discover an Internet Marketer that gets it. They have what it takes to dominate SEO keywords. They really understand their market and they know what has to be done to dominate SEO keywords completely.
But the majority of the time it is always a few big players fighting for a handful of keyword phrases, and table scraps.
Nine chances out of ten when I decided to enter a market, you can pretty much guarantee that I will take your lunch money and you won’t even know it. I’ll dominate the traffic from keywords that you haven’t thought about in months, if not years.
The major difference between me and my competitors in any chosen market is… My keywords are just a little more targeted than theirs. My keywords convert slightly better than theirs. Then there is my favorite part… The keywords that they are targeting…. I usually have them sitting there on my home page, waiting for the moment I decide to focus on them.
Six months later while you are sitting back in the lap of luxury, I smash the competitors like King Kong when I snatch the #1 ranking for there best keywords. Because I have already obtained half the traffic I can afford to take it and hold on to it. This is EXACTLY how I dominate SEO keywords.
Once I have silently entered the market and secured enough traffic so that I’m not depending on a small number of keywords, I’ll take the gloves off and go toe-to-toe with you for some high volume search results… Chances are you will have to find another market.

Are You Sure Your Ready?
Let’s go over one more time what awaits you if you follow my battle plan exactly.
- Dominate more of the niche market without breaking a sweat.
- Take your competitors lunch money without them even knowing.
- Bully the long tail guys.
- Become King among the major keyword players.
I know that my roofless Gorilla tactics may seem a bit much for some, however and please note that I use them to make a clear point. You will need to trust me I have used this strategy over and over again and trust me…. It works every time.
I do realize that looking at the big picture the high volume search results may look a little tough and intimidating – but there is no need to worry… I have a plan
Stage 1 – Selecting The Correct Keywords
The first thing that you will need to do is put together a list targeted keywords. I recommend that you start off with a list of the top 20 – 50 search terms.
Seeing as if I am already headed towards the longest blog post ever, I am not going to go into details on the basics on keyword research. I will however recommend that you use Google’s Keyword Tool if your not already doing so, and it is free. If you feel that you are ready, and you surely want to dominate SEO keywords go download a copy of Market Samurai RIGHT NOW!
Stage 2 – Identify Your Target
Do a search for each keyword on your list, and identify the top competitors. Start with the highest volume search terms and work your way down the list to the lowest volume searches.
I personally start a new physical folder for each new project/website. I then print each of the SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages) out and write the volume at the top of the page. They key to your success is being extremely organized and being able to notice changes in your market rapidly.
It is important to take note of how many times the same competitor shows up for each of your keywords, and which keywords they do not show up for. We are looking for weaknesses in their strategy, their weakness is your opportunity.
As you become more experienced at SEO you will realize that in most markets the big boys will begin to fall off as you come closer to the low volume SERPs.
Let’s say that you notice that your competitor the XYZ company has been number one for the majority of your high volume keywords. Then let’s say that you realize that as begin to get to the lower volume keywords you notice that they are still on the front page but they are towards the bottom of the SERPs. This means that – that particular keyword is ripe for the picking. Chances are they aren’t even checking their rankings.
From my personal experiences I have noticed that when the big boys are not checking their rankings, this is a good opportunity for you to creep up and take the top position in the SERPs, and dominate SEO keywords.
Step 3 – Beware Of The Little Guy
When you start to get to the smaller keywords or lower volume keywords on your list you will notice the smaller players who specialize in that particular market.
For example in the Tinkerbell Fans market, Chad Patterson’s “TinkerbellFairyFans.com” targets search terms like, “tinkerbell coloring pages” with an internal page. This is a very important keyword for him since this site is dedicated to that keyword phrase.
When you go after keywords like that chances are those marketers will notice. Trust me they will not take your attack lying down, prepare to fight!
I am not saying not to put up a fight… I’m simply saying you should look for their weaknesses. Are they doing a good job of SEO, or weak in the link building department? It could be that they only have a high ranking by pure luck. I find that a ton of my competitors in a niche market rely on luck and do not have a clue how to dominate SEO keywords. Needless to say their luck runs out once I enter the market.
Step 4 – Pick The Low Hanging Fruit
This exercise will reveal many areas, that the major players are not paying attention to. I have found that the small niche markets either have low competition or the competition that is there is very weak.
The lower volume search terms tend to the low hanging fruit that is right for the picking. You can easily pick off traffic and sales.
It is pretty easy to pick the low hanging fruit. All you have to do is a little on page SEO, internal linking, and a small bit of external link building. You are guaranteed to pluck off a nice share of organic traffic.
Now Go And Be A Gorilla… And Come Back, Thank Me Later!
As you begin to dominate the secondary keywords on your list, you will develop an eye for new opportunities such as:
Keywords where you can easily grab a “double indented listing”
Keywords that convert especially well, delivering more revenue per visit
Long tail traffic increasing, with many more search terms driving traffic
Most Internet Marketers that I speak with tell me that keyword research is boring, which is another reason why they do not dominate SEO keywords. I personally love it… I love when I see an opportunity to take someone’s lunch money ![]()
